Kalihani Pass trek is one of the most popular treks among the trekkers and it is one of the last wild trekking routes of Himachal Prdaesh. This beautiful trek starts from Manali and actual starting point of trek in Dungri Village. It is situated at an altitude of 15,500 ft above the sea level. Every year hundreds of trekkers from different parts of the country come here to explore the hidden charm of this amazing land. Kalihani means black snow which known for its ancient glaciers with very old ice formation. The trek is a heaven for those who love wildlife enthusiasts and bird lovers and have to opportunity to glimpse of countless Himalayan birds and animals like brown bear and musk deer etc.
The charming trek offering the breath taking views and take you to upper reaches of Hanuman Tibba, Deo Tibba, and Indrasan peaks of Pir –Panjal Range. On the way you can enjoy the amazing nature beauty and will pass through lush green carpets with alpine flowers, enchanting valleys, dense forest, Remote village and green meadows will increase the charm of the pass. Kalihani Pass is also known as the pathway to the Bara Bhangal Village in the Kangra Valley. The local people known as Gaddi of the Kangra valley regularly use this pass to cross over into the main kullu valley. The beautiful trek will take 15 – 16 days to complete.
The next part of the pass will take you through challenging scree and moraine zones of the Kalihani glacier. The mesmerizing hanging gardens, Pir- Panjal and Dhauladhar mountain ranges standing majestically in front of you where you will experience the wonder at God’s Creations. A beautiful small glacier lake will make you fresh and rejuvenate. This beautiful trek is a great mix of everything that Himalayan has to offer. The best time for visit is from Mid June to Mid October. The days are quite warm with temperature of 12 – 20 degree but the nights are cold with -2 to 6 degree. September to October is pleasant here but the nights are colder with -6 to 4 degree.
Itinerary:
Day 01: Delhi – Kalihani Pass Trek
Catch an AC train From New Delhi Railway Station to Pathankot. Enjoy overnight journey.
Day 02: Pathankot – Dalhousie
Arrival at Pathankot and we will take you to towards Dalhousie via drive. After reaching Dalhousie check in the hotel and take some rest. In the evening you will visit this beautiful hill station.
Day 03: Dalhousie – Kalatop – Khajiyar – Bharmour
After breakfast at the hotel we will move towards Kalatop to explore the wildlife sanctuary then move to Khajiyar. Enjoy the nature beauty of the Mini Switzerland and have lunch here. After lunch we will proceed towards Bharmour through Chamba. After reaching at Bharmour check in the hotel take some rest. In the evening take Arti of Chaurasi Temple. Enjoy Dinner and overnight stay at hotel.
Day 04: Bharmour – Bharmani Mata Temple – Bharmour
Get up early in the morning after breakfast and taking the packed Lunch we will take you to Bharmani Temple. This temple is 3 km far from Bharmour. After visit return back to hotel, enjoy dinner and overnight stay.
Day 05: Bharmour – Holi – Lakkewali Mata
After having breakfast in hotel we will move towards to a small village Holi. It is a small village situated on the bank of Ravi River. This village is popularly known for its delicious red, royal and golden apples and walnuts. After reaching Holi we will visit small bazaar and then move to Nayagram and Laakewali Mata Temple which is 3 km from Nayagram. Enjoy Lunch at the temple, overnight stay and dinner at campsite.
Day 06: Laakewali Mata – Dharadin
After having breakfast we will move towards Dharadin which is 10 km from Laakewali Mata. We will go downwards for about 500 m and then cross a bridge then reach a small village Surie. Now move to Urna village you will continue to Khrudu village through ropeway. After Lunch and rest we will move to Dharadin through Garonda Village. Dinner and overnight stay will be arrange in the campsite.
Day 07: Dharadi – Lake Base Camp
After having breakfast we will move towards Lake Base which is 14 km trek to Dharadi. On this trek need more precaution and special care because there are many tricky and risky sections. In around 4-5 hours we will reach hamlet of Khanar village. The trail is now definite and leads downwards through the trees to a tiny lake, this place is a Gaddi Shepherds and a relaxing place after 2 days of tough and tiring trekking through this rock –strewn. Overnight stay and enjoy the dinner at the campsite.
Day 08: Lake Base Camp – Bara Bhangal
Bara Bhangal is one of the most remote areas of Kangra district situated 10 km from Lake Base camp. Trek will continue to the North – East side beside Ravi River. Bara bhangal is a little valley which is lies on the base of three towering range and numerous glacier. The Dhauladhar can be crossed to the kangra valley by Mokori pass, Gairu jot and Thamsar Pass. Enjoy the comfortable and relaxing camping.
Day 09: Rest Day at Bara Bhanghal
Today is the rest day at Bara Bhanghal, you can enjoy the local attraction and sightseeing.
Day 10: Bara Bhanghal – Dal Marhi
After having breakfast we will move towards Dal Marhi. Take 8 km trek to Bara Bhanghal to Devi Ki Marhi. The trail will continue to the upstream beside the Ravi River. Reach at Marhi enjoy the dinner and campsite.
Day 11: Dal Marhi – Devi ki Marhi
After having breakfast at the campsite we will move towards the next destination of Devi Ki Marhi. Most of the path is flat with up and down trek and pass through dense and oak forest and finally reach at Devi KI Marhi Campsite.
Day 12: Devi ki Marhi – Alyas Base Camp
After having breakfast we will move to Alyas Base Camp take around 4 km trek. To reach the destination we will take trek with safety of the trekkers. With the help of steep climb across the glacier and the glacier lake will take you to the campsite at the base camp.
Day 13: Alyas Base Camp –Kalihani Pass – Base Camp
Today, we will move towards Over Kalihani Pass trek but the trek is totally depends on the weather condition. The tour guide will not permit to start trek in the bad climate and wait until the sky clear.
If the weather is good, then after having light breakfast with packed lunch we will start the trek early in the morning around 5:00 am. It is require the pass before 12:00 to 01:00 pm otherwise rainfall, heavy snow, winds are create a major problem and take place in any time. I hope the snow is frozen for a less difficult hike. About 3 km from the camp site we will pass a glacier lake. The two peaks, Thamsar and Lantern can be seen easily on the other side of the pass. You can enjoy the 360 degree panoramic views of the hanging glaciers.
Day 14: Base camp –Riyali
After having breakfast we will proceed towards Riyali. We will proceed over to the open meadows and going down through a stream. After crossing the stream you start steep climb for around 3 hours to reach at the Riyali. On the way you can enjoy the fabulous views of the Deo Tibba and Indrasan Peaks.
Day 15: Riyali – Lamadugh
Today after having breakfast we will start trek towards Lamadugh. On the trail you will come across dissimilar types blossoming alpine flowers. After starting you will pass through the ridge horizontally and enter the camp site. At This point you can have wonderful glimpse of the Manali Hill station.
Day 16: Lamadugh – Manali
In the early morning we will move to the direction of Manali. This is the last day of your journey and the trek will end today with lots of amazing memories and mesmerizing views for whole life. After arrival at Manali you will depart towards Railway station. From here move to Delhi and enjoy the overnight journey.
