Tabo is a small beautiful town and a popular tourist destination located in the Spiti valley of Himachal Pradesh. It is situated at an elevation of 3050 mts above the sea level in the Spiti and Lahaul district. It is lies on the bank of Spiti River and surrounding by the snow capped brown hills. The charming town is lies in between Rekong Peo and Kaza Roads. Tabao is a most popular tourists place which is popularly known for its ancients monasteries, it is believed that the monasteries which situated in Tabo around 1000 years old.
Tabo is known for its monastery and the Tabo Monastery is one of the oldest and holiest places. It is spread an area of 6300 sq mts surrounding by a mud boundary wall. Tabo monastery houses of 9 temples along with a monks chamber and a nuns residence. Dalai Lama conducted the Kalachakra initiation ceremony in Tabo in 1996. After that the millennium anniversary celebrated in Tabo Monastery and thousands of the Buddhists was taken part in these anniversaries from across the world. This monastery is a preserver of rare Buddhist Paintings and knowledge and the walls of the monastery preserve the culture.
Apart from Monastery, Tabo caves are also popular and one of the major attraction here. These ancient caves were used by monks for meditation. The caves used by monks, those marked by flag and prohibited to enter. Tabo is popularly known for its apple cultivation and some of the tastiest apples in the world are found here. It is a secret the cold desert produced most delicious apples.
Summer: Summer is the best time to reach and summer begins from March to till June is the best time to visit. During the summer you can enjoy the sightseeing with the pleasant weather.
Winters: Winters are harsh here with the temperature as low as zero level.
Mahakala Vajra Bhairava Temple: It is located in the complex of Tabo Monastery. This temple is houses of numerous idols and commonly this temple call ‘The temple of Horror’. Lot of the visitor enters this temple only for meditation. It was founded by Dromton during 1008 and 1064 A.D.
The Golden Temple: Golden temple is one of the major attractions of Tabo Monastery and a famous temple located inside the monastery. It got its name from the legend and it is believed that this temple was completely made of pure gold. During the 16th century this temple was renovated by a king of Ladakh ‘Sengge Namgyal’.
The Mystic Mandala Temple: This is a popular temple which is popularly known for its beautiful paintings of vairocana on the facing of the door. The deity is surrounding by eight Bodhisattvas.
The temple of Enlightened gods: This is the main assembly hall of the monastery where the deity of a four-fold vairocana in a sitting posture. This temple is known by name of Tug- Lha- Khang.
Bodhisattva Maitreya Temple: This is a religious temple has a big hall with an attached ante chamber. The 6 meters tall idol of Budhisattva Maitreya is the major attraction of this temple.
Pin Valley National Park: It is located in the Lahaul and Spiti which referred as the home of more than 25 species of animals and birds. This amazing National park was established in 1987 with at an elevation of 3300 to 6632 mts above the sea level. It is rich in flora and fauna.
Tabo Monastery: Tobo Monastery is referred as the Ajanta of the Himalayan which is one of the most popular attractions located in Lahaul and Spiti. It is believed that the monastery was found in 996 A.D. It is an untouched beauty and served as the glorious heritage offered the traditions and culture of Buddhist. The temple complex of the monastery is declared a National Historic Treasure.
Kaza: Kaza is a most beautiful place and one of the most important and famous town in the Spiti Valley in Lahaul and Spiti district in Himachal Pradesh. It is situated at an elevation of 11,980 ft above the sea level and offered the overlooked high mountains from all sides. It can be easily reached from two sides Kinnaur valley and Manali via Rohtang Pass. Kaza is rich in flora and fauna and present the amazing charm of the place. It is divided into two parts – The Old Kaza and New Kaza. The old kaza is called Kaza khas the major attraction of the place are king’s palace, monasteries, gompas, ancient buildings etc. The new Kaza is called Kaza Soma and government offices, hotels, restaurants etc are situated here.
Tabo cave: Tabo caves are the other major attraction of the place. These are manmade oldest caves situated in the regions. These caves was built century ago and used by the monks for protect harsh winters but now some caves are used for meditation.
The Temple of Dromton: This is the second largest temple in the Tabo monastery which is cover an area of 112 sq km. it is believed that the temple was built in between 1008 and 1064 A.D by Dromton.
Key Monastery: Key Monastery is one of the most visited and largest in the Spiti valley which is established in 11th century. It is situated at a distance of 7 km from kaza. The monastery presents the ancient architecture, Buddhist scrolls and Paintings. Inside the monastery you do not click the photographs. Large number of Buddhist monks, nuns and lamas live in this monastery.
Kaza: Kaza is a beautiful valley which is popularly known for its snow covered mountains, crystal clear water, rivers, green meadows, pleasant weather, cool climate etc. Kaza is famous for its colorful festivals and Sakya Tangyud Monastery is one of the major attractions of the place. It is the base camp for trekking, mountaineering and other adventurous activities.
Spiti: Spiti is a most beautiful destination which is popularly known as Little Tibet. It is accessible only during summer, is the best time for visit. This valley is surrounding by the Mountains, Glaciers, Monasteries, crystal clear water rivers, pleasant and cool weather and prayer flags etc. Spiti is one of the major attractions of the place.
